The Barbell Press is owned and operated by Katie Ferriello. Katie is a USA-W National Coach as well as a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and CrossFit Kids Trainer. She was part owner of CrossFit RFA/Rebel Fitness in Nanuet from 2012-2015 and currently competes in weightlifting as a member of McKenna’s Gym. Additionally, she is a certified LWC Ref for USA-Weightlifting and is certified as a physical education teacher within New York State.
The mission of The Barbell Press is to highlight the connection between all sports that involve the barbell. Currently, The Barbell Press is focused on Weightlifting and CrossFit, but there are plans to cover other sports, such as Powerlifting, in the future. We are united in our love for the iron and our commitment to sport and that should be celebrated.
Another focus of The Barbell press is to give a voice to athletes of all levels and abilities. The Barbell Press believes that the 9-5er raising two kids who manages to dedicate four solid hours a week to their training should be respected as much as the elite athlete who lives and breathes for the sport. Each is making sacrifices and giving what they can to be the best athlete possible given their circumstances. For that reason, TBP interviews successful athletes from all walks of life- men, women, Master’s athletes, youth athletes, weightlifters, CrossFitters, etc. Everyone has a story to share that can inspire others to become their best selves.
It is also a goal of TBP to present the humanity of elite athletes. Too often, these athletes are seen as genetically gifted people and the obstacles they’ve overcome are forgotten by their fans. It is through understanding the hurdles that these athletes have faced that we recognize our own abilities to rise above adversity.
